Eastern Maple Wall cabinetMy first attempt in solid wood. A seemingly square box which surprises curious viewers with concealed curves and angles when at closer look. There are six different curves in the front door alone, achieved using a self-made wood coppered plane and spokeshaves chair scraper. I’ve interlaced convex and concave curves, hard to figure out if you don’t touch it, if you don’t feel it. A book matched spalted western maple panel welcome your eyes when the door is open, followed with a small drawer just to justify the joy of some dovetail in my first piece. Lots of little details to be discover by a sensible and curious eye. It was a big pleasure for my hand to work in this beautiful first project. |
